Understanding Load Index & High-Speed Ratings (W, Y, (Y))
Directly following the dimensions, you will find a number and letter such as 107Y:
- Load Index (e.g. 107): Numerical code representing maximum load carrying capacity per tyre (107 = 975 kg per wheel). Heavy electric vehicles (Tesla, Porsche Taycan) and large SUVs (Nissan Patrol, Land Cruiser) require High Load (XL / Extra Load) designations.
- Speed Rating (e.g. Y): Maximum safe sustained velocity rating:
V= Up to 240 km/hW= Up to 270 km/hY= Up to 300 km/h(Y)= Exceeding 300 km/h (Supercar homologation)
Decoding the 4-Digit DOT Production Date Stamp
Always inspect the oval badge stamped near the bead with 4 numbers:
Example: DOT ... 4825 means the tyre was manufactured in Week 48 of 2025 (late November 2025). Never accept tyres in the UAE that have been sitting in unconditioned warehouse storage for more than 18–24 months.
